What the hell happened to McFly?

I adored them and they were my life, however I changed my music style slightly as they went out of the limelight and now they have changed :( their more punk and rock now opposed to the sweet a soft lyrics i used to adore :/ does anyone know when this happened (e.g when they changes style) i would appreciate a year because i still love their old songs and want to listen to them again but don't know when to get albums up until. Im not a fan of trial and error so this is why im asking :)
