Parents can't even predict what kind of relationship their kids will have with them as adults, so trying to guess how close your nieces and nephews will be to you is a lost cause. For all you know one of them might decide to move to Nepal and cut himself off from the modern world for the rest of his life. But a good general rule is that you reap what you sow with children. If you care for them and give to them when they are children and they need you that is your best shot gaining their respect as adults. All the drama with your mother and stepfather sounds mind-numbing. Do you live with them? If so move out. If you don't live with them reduce contact. As to whether your nieces and nephews believe your stepdad, well if they are smart they will figure out the truth when they are older.
